Sunday, Sept 6, finally, after months of anxious waiting as to whether I was going to be able to take vacation, I was back in Venice! As the Alilaguna (water bus transportation from the airport) passed by my hotel (pink building with striped awning, Hotel Ca' Formenta)I smiled and knew I was home!

Interestingly enough, no sleep for more than 24 hours, sitting in the sun and sleep was not even crossing my mind. I was in Venice watching the Regata Storica, adrenaline kicks in!

This is Francesco Da Mosto, his family has owned the Palazo at the San Toma canal for centuries. He had a documentary on BBC called, Francesco's Venice and a book of the same name, which I own. The stands were in front of his Palazo, he was out on the balcony off and on watching the Regata.

This is where I was sitting for lunch...ironically I love this little spot, I had coffee there when I was in Venice the last time...the reason why it's ironic is that I don't really like the area right around the Rialto, it's too full of tourists and can be hard to walk around. But this little spot seems protected from the madness and it's great to watch the traffic on the Grand Canal.
